How Soil Conditioners Work

At TerraBioGen we believe the best crops are grown in soils that have balanced chemical, physical and biological properties.

For a long time, it has been known that plants need more than N-P-K nutrients for healthy growth. However, today agriculture is based on the Liebig’s theory of water-soluble minerals as the only requirement for healthy, nutrition and growth of plants.

Benefits of Soil Conditioners

Plants fed with organic sources of nutrients from soil conditioners (or soil amendments) can deliver the same yield compared to those of chemical fertilizers. In addition, the quality of the proteins, vitamins and other essential components for healthy nutrition are superior in the plants grown under an organic regime.

TerraBioGen organically based soil conditioners contain macro and micro nutrients and can meet immediate and long term nutrient needs of crops.

A portion of the nutrients in the TerraBioGen soil conditioner product is released slowly over time. This data was confirmed by leaching experiments for different growing media and in different environmental conditions.

In addition, TerraBioGen’s soil conditioners contain a number of compounds not found in commercial chemical fertilizers that are essential for production of healthy crops. Our soil conditioners have compositions very similar to root exudates and plants that support healthy microbial community in soil.

Soil Conditioner Components

Amino acids and organic acids: Amino acids are essential for improved protein production in plants. At the same time, amino acids are excellent food for microbial populations in the soil that will lead to other benefits as a result of microbial activities. Increased microbial population in the soil will produce organic acids that are the main agent responsible for dissolving minerals from insoluble complexes. These minerals are not available to plants under chemical fertilization regimes because they are water-soluble and the above mentioned minerals will not dissolve in water without organic acids.

Humic substances: This portion of our soil conditioner will improve the uptake of microelements. Humic substances act as chelating agents, which absorb essential microelements preventing them from being leached. Thus, they become available to the plant roots. There is a large amount of research confirming that microelements and other nutrients (phosphorus, calcium) are taken up by the plant more efficiently when in combination with humic substances.

Phytohormones: TerraBioGen’s products have a number of plant hormones (phytohormones) involved in plant growth development and flowering. Also, a number of precursons to phytohormones found in soil conditioners support their production after application in fields.

Phenols: Many compounds in this group are essential in disease resistance and immunity.

Organic matter: It is well recognized that soil under a chemical fertility program will lead to depletion of humus or organic matter, which leads to soil erosion and poor soil structure. In addition, the leaching of chemical fertilizers contaminates the ground water.

Our raw soil conditioner is an excellent platform for development of microbial products as well as enhanced microelements for commercial agriculture, solving many problems of this industry today. Application of TerraBioGen’s products in conjunction with lower levels of chemical fertilizers is synergistic and demonstrates remarkable results.
